Additional information

This work advances understanding of electromagnetic-wave interactions with the human body. The novel evolutionary-algorithm approach to modelling tissue dielectric properties out-performs traditional optimisation methods and is relevant to assessment of exposure to non-ionising radiation, to the design of wireless body-sensor networks, and to the development of microwave imaging systems for detecting diseases such as breast cancer. Researchers at the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris have subsequently used this approach for modelling acoustic wave propagation in lung tissue.
