This paper contains the first in vitro studies combining radiotherapy with two drugs, temozolomide and ABT-888. These drugs target different DNA repair pathways and both are capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier. Temozolomide only works for 45% of the population but its effects are found to be additive to radiation. It shows that in combination the drugs have a radio-sensitising effect on the 55% of the population where temozolomide had little effect. As a result, the combination of these drugs and radiotherapy will soon go into clinical trials.
