Additional information

This is a key paper looking at the behaviour of axially loaded steel tubes damaged by lateral forces. These member types are very common in steel offshore oil and gas drilling platforms and are very susceptible to damage from supply ship impact. Determining the integrity and overall stability of the damaged platform leg, and hence the entire steel platform, is essential for overall safety and continued production. This publication was the first to consider the detrimental effects of a dynamic impact on the residual strength of pre-stressed, large diameter, high strength steel tubes.
