Additional information

This paper described the first high-throughput, low-cost electrode array for dielectrophoretic analysis of cells. The approach – using machined laminates rather than microfabricated electrodes- was completely counter to the prevailing direction of research but has brought the first DEP cell analysis tool to market. This has been commercialised under the DEPtech brand (www.labtech.com) and has the potential to revolutionise how DEP is performed by those outside the field, in the biological and life sciences. Subsequently the electrode array has been used in many diverse applications, producing 10 papers and forming the basis for > £0.5M of regional and national funding.
