Additional information

This paper, based on collaboration between the University of Surrey and University of Padova, demonstrated a newly developed model by our research team for pressure driven membrane processes. The model was also successfully validated by experiment using aqueous solutions that are used in our novel Forward Osmosis desalination process. The model explained the effect of membrane properties on water permeability which has an impact on membrane development and applications. This fundamental work underpins the demonstration trials in the Modern Water forward osmosis desalination plants in Oman and Gibraltar.
