The work reported in this paper was the first to 1) develop the theory and a model of the interaction between Fano resonance associated with molecular bonds and the resonant metasurface and 2) the ability of the A-SRR structure to enhance the molecular resonance of minute localized areas of organic material. The work has led to a joint EPSRC proposal with Universities of Strathclyde (Peter Cormack) and Glasgow (N. Johnson).
