Significance of output:

Ears are a biometric of increasing interest and this paper describes the first model-based approach to recognition. While other methodologies are holistic/statistical, using a model confers greater invariant attributes than appearance based description. The model-based approach is justified anthropologically and by development, and gives good recognition capability, as shown here, especially in occlusion. There is increasing interest in ear images for forensic use. There has been considerable media interest in our ear biometrics research, including Wired US, Slashdot, ABC News, Washington Post (USA), Toronto Star (Canada), Science et Vie (France), La Republica (Italy) and Times of India.
