Photosensitivity control of an isotropic medium through polarization of light pulses with tilted intensity front
Significance of output:
A new phenomenon, the anisotropic photosensitivity of an isotropic homogeneous medium under uniform illumination was discovered. The experiments revealed that interaction of ultrashort pulses with transparent material can be strongly affected by spatio-temporal properties of ultra-short light pulse. The discovered phenomenon allows control of material absorption by mutual orientation of a light polarization and pulse front tilt and increase the efficiency ultrashort laser material processing. The work has been carried out in collaboration with Y. Shimotsuma (Kyoto University, Japan), A. Selcuk (Istanbul Technical University, Turkey), J. Qiu (Zhejiang University, China) and Y. Svirko (University of Eastern Finland).
