Dynamic soil-structure interaction of monopile supported wind turbines in cohesive soil
Very little is known about the long-term dynamic behaviour of monopile-supported offshore wind turbines in clays. Experimental methods have been developed to study the long term behaviour. This paper presents laboratory tests in which changes of frequency and damping of a scaled turbine were monitored. The results are presented using a non-dimensional framework based on an interpretation of the governing mechanics. Practical guidance for choosing the diameter of monopile is suggested based on element test results of the soil.
