Additional information

Integrated circuits, such as microprocessors of PCs produce waste heat, this research was targeting the question can this waste heat be used to generate useful electrical power. In the UK alone there are c 54million PCs in use; recovering just 1W of waste energy would contribute 54MW to the UK energy demand. The work was supported by European Thermodynamics, UK. The outputs from this research present novel uses of thermoelectric devices for cooling local Integrated Circuits (ICs) to recover this waste heat.
