Additional information

<23> This work addresses a fundamental issue in image gradient based deformable model segmentation, i.e. initialisation invariance. The proposed method shows practical invariancy to initialisation that has never been reported in the literature for image gradient based approaches. It also has the ability to perform segmentation without any initialisation, which is to the best of our knowledge the first ever such edge based deformable method. This initialisation flexibility provides new potentials for edge based deformable models in detecting unknown geometries and topologies, for instance, automated object detection and localisation. The work is published in a top journal in Image Processing.
