A 60 pW g(m)C Continuous Wavelet Transform Circuit for Portable EEG Systems
This paper describes a novel approach to implement a wavelet transform as an integrated circuit, together with experimental results. The resulting Silicon circuit is record breaking in power consumption (by nearly 3 orders of magnitude). By mimicking the activity of the brain, it is proven that it is possible to process brain signals with a microchip that consumes less power (60pW) than the one used by a brain neuron. This work has resulted in 7 journal papers, 7 conference papers, winning £500,000 to solve a CRACKit Challenge (system for mice. http://www.nc3rs.org.uk/); and the award of the Eryl Cadwaladr Davies Prize.
