Additional information

Because of their high aspect ratio and large charge carrier density, TiO2-coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) perform much better in photocatalysis applications (such as CO2 reduction) than TiO2 alone. Here, a novel three-step purification/functionalization process is investigated for the coating of MWCNTs with TiO2. Previous routes have resulted in inhomogeneity of the surface structure of the MWCNTs after coating, but this new process produces high purity MWCNTs with a homogeneous coating. The novelty of the approach also lies in the modification of the TiO2 electronic structure and its increased reactive surface area, which further enhances reaction rates.
