Additional information

The paper builds upon research carried out over ten years in collaboration with The NW Composites Centre at Manchester, Aircelle Ltd. Aerocomposites Ltd and initially from BAe systems at Samesbury. The work quantifies via numerical modeling the interlaminar damage and uses this to predict the potential damage through the thickness. It is envisaged that the methodology as it is not resource intensive can also be used as a predictive tool for damage initiation in other types of composite panels. The research also forms part of the thesis of Farooq (supervised by Myler)
