Additional information

This PhD (Biswas) research project led by Kandola and sponsored by a major aerospace grade resin manufacturer involved melt blending flame retardants in a thermoplastic toughener, extruding into fibres and co-weaving fibres with the reinforcing carbon fibres. This novel method of fire retarding composites helped the company in improving their products. Due to commercial sensitivity of the process, all details could not be published. The non-confidential results presented in this paper are of huge benefit to other resin and composite manufacturers in designing new systems.
