This is the first reported attempt to quantify synergistic effects which previously had been qualitatively assessed. In so doing, direct comparisons have been made between the alternative synergists antimony III oxide and the tin stannates in a number of polymer matrices of commercial significance. This has led to further sponsored research and enabled the company to develop the versatility of its tin-based products. The research was fully funded by William Blythe Ltd. This work has led to one PhD student in post and 2 currently being recruited.
