Additional information

The article ‘About the heart...’ was co-authored at equal 50% with Peter Stockwell (Nottingham). The overarching argument of the paper was developed jointly in discussion and written collaboratively. Gavins’ research in particular underpins the text-world analysis of the literary work in focus, while Stockwell’s contribution was mainly in the stylistic exploration. The reader-response material which appears in the paper was collected during both contributors’ research work and both authors contributed jointly to the discussion of the current state-of-the-art in cognitive approaches to literary study which begins the article.
