<17>The paper was presented at The Tenth Asia Pacific Bioinformatics Conference (APBC 2012) and forms an updated and extended version of the conference abstract. We propose scoring functions for the ranking of predicted miRNA targets. Our analysis of miRNA target predictions from PITA and STarMir against validated targets show that on average the ranking of validated targets was significantly improved based on our scoring functions in comparison to the rankings by PITA and STarMir. Our scoring functions result from a detailed analysis of the pareto front of the underlying multi-objective optimisation problem.
