Mussolini’s Policemen: Behaviour, Ideology and Institutional Culture in Representation and Practice

Completion of the monograph depended on my ability sufficiently to address and elaborate upon a number of complex and intricate research questions relating to Italian fascism and the behaviour of police personnel under that regime. This was possible though the examination of a vast and wide-ranging body of primary sources which were only accessible through visits to archives and libraries in Italy over a lengthy period of time (roughly 2003 – 2010). It is ‘the use of primary sources which were especially extensive, complex or difficult to access’ which is the basis of the double weighting of this output.
