Additional information

A joint US-Spanish team claimed 8 orders enhancement in oxygen conductivity (interfacial) of a zirconia-strontium titanate heterostructure, implied room temperature oxide fuel cells possible! JK formed international consortium (UK, US, Spain) using unambiguous oxygen tracer method developed by JK. Experiments showed heterostructure not continuous and conductivity electronic in nature not ionic. Extremely important result, informed future experiments on interfacial enhancement of ionic conductivity. Awarded best paper at Solid state Ionics 2010. Part of team awarded International Union of Materials Research Societies (IUMRS)2012 Somiya award for international collaboration. Further collaboration (MIT, Ohio State, NIMS Tsukuba) and Marie Curie fellowship for Cavallaro.
