Cue Abstraction, Paradigmatic Analysis and Information Dynamics: Towards Music Analysis by Cognitive Model
<22>The first time that a rigorously validated computational cognitive model has been used for automated musicological analysis and been shown to simulate human judgements over the same material. A novel computational approach to quantitative definition and detection of salience in music, and its application in psychology (Cue Abstraction, Deliège, 1987-) and music theory (Semiotic Analysis, Ruwet, 72-). Translated into French in the Proceedings of the Royal Belgian Academy of Sciences (equivalent to Royal Society). Paper unites ideas from three separate research fields (CS, music, psychology). Led to EU FP7 grant, 'Learning to Create', €2.5M.
