Double-weighted statement

This monograph of 100,000 words is an interdisciplinary work which explicitly employs socio-economic theory on the themes of risk, trust, reputation, obligation, networks and crises. These themes are argued to be the ‘institutional elements’ of a complex Atlantic-wide British business culture, which facilitated British economic success over the crisis-ridden period 1750 to 1815. In order to complete this study an extensive range of manuscripts, government records, tracts, newspapers and court records were consulted in the UK, the US and the British West Indies over the period 2004-2012.
