Additional information

This paper presents a study on the design rules for all semiconductor photonic crystal surface emitting lasers (PCSELs), highlighting that epitaxial re-growth provide advantages over current designs incorporating voids such as high coupling coefficients and design flexibility. Additionally, designs of a PCSEL combining a discrete Bragg reflector (DBR) have demonstrated that a DBR layer increases the device output by making it unidirectional. The presented analysis and results have resulted in the award of a recent £700k EPSRC funded project (EP/K023195/1).
