Additional information

Forchheimer equation simulates non-linear head (energy) losses, which occur in vicinity of abstraction wells, affecting yields and causing increased pumping costs. Work provides novel analytical solutions for verifying numerical models and identifies deficiencies in published work. Resulted in an invited talk in “Non-Darcy flow session” at Geological Society of America Joint Annual Meeting, Houston, 2008. Currently utilised in work with Thames Water (Michael.Jones@thameswater.co;.uk) to verify numerical models of their production wells for revised yield assessment, through EPSRC studentship (Upton) and NERC project on impacts of the changing water cycle (NE/I006621/1) on groundwater resources in the Thames basin.
