Additional information

This was an international collaboration led by Mitchell. Mitchell and PhD student Kinrade deployed the GPS equipment in Antarctica and performed the analysis. Co-authors provided infrastructure and data. The paper led to an invitation for Mitchell to deliver a Keynote Address in 2012 at the 12th International Conference on Ionospheric Radio Systems and Techniques on 'GPS and the Ionosphere'. It has also led to a long-term international collaboration with US colleagues, an NSF (USA) research grant and the formation of a new international Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) Expert Group. The work is interdisciplinary with physics.
