Additional information

Despite the recent boom in WiFi networks, supporting QoS and estimating bandwidth remains a major challenge; no mechanism has been standardized to accurately evaluate available bandwidth. The proposed approach is unique in that it differentiates the channel busy caused by transmitting/receiving from that caused by carrier sensing, hence improving the accuracy when estimating bandwidth. The method outperforms others with the potential to be implemented in 802.11 WiFi receivers. The approach was adopted by University of California, Davis as part of their bandwidth estimation toolset. As a result of this research, collaboration in this area has been established with NUDT, China.
