Additional information

This paper investigates the leakage of information from an encrypted Skype voice conversation by analysing compressed and encrypted data patterns. Experiments have shown that isolated phonemes can be classified and that given sentences identified using a dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm. Using training data, sentence identification accuracy of 83% can be achieved, thus allowing effective eavesdropping of VoIP conversations. In the light of this work Skype corporation revised its voice encryption strategy in Skype version 4 and 5 to ensure improved VoIP privacy.
