A unique Critical State two-surface hyperplasticity model for fine-grained particulate media
This paper is the culmination of the successful collaboration between Crouch (supervisor) and Coombs (PhD student), building on the earlier CMAME 200 paper. It offers the first comprehensive hyperplastic 2-surface anisotropic Critical State soil model. The break-through formulation solves the troublesome difficulties faced by soil modellers for over 30 years; that is, of arriving asymptotically at an isotropic Critical State following anisotropic deformation. Figures 2-5 reveal the new formulation significantly out-performing five alternative leading models. Crouch invited Princeton's Professor Jean-Herve Prevost to be Coombs’ PhD examiner. J-HP was deeply impressed by the ambition and achievements of the study.
