Additional information

This work used positron emission particle tracking, applied for the first time on a model industrial fluidised bed, to elucidate the solid circulation patterns. The bed incorporated immersed heating tubes, multiple base-plate gas injectors and polymer feed injection, reflecting industrial practice. This research contributed directly to the design of a pilot scale plant planned by BP with contractors Technip (USA). The work was funded by the EPSRC grant GR/M54360 and an industrial consortium led by BP and including DSM, Shanks McEwen and Montecatini.
