Additional information

This paper introduces, through theoretical analysis and experimental validation, a powerful new technique for the artificial introduction of controllable vortex structures into laboratory experiments. The technique and associated methodology will allow the testing of hydrodynamic systems, such as tidal turbines and hydrodynamic stabilization systems, which are difficult to physically simulate at model scale. This work was critical to securing the £11.2M funding for the new world leading UK Wave-Current facility, £6M from EP/I02932X/1, the formation of FloWave TT Ltd (CEO: Stuart Brown (email available)) to effect robust physical simulation of eddy effects.
