Additional information

This paper reported the first direct comparison of field and laboratory measurements of “violent” wave overtopping at a vertical seawall under heavy wave-breaking. The work demonstrated that laboratory-based methods scaled robustly to full-scale. These findings underpin Section 7.3.7 in “EurOtop” (ISBN:9783804210646), the standard civil engineering design guide for best-practice (UK, Netherlands and Germany). EurOtop has logged 8300 downloads from 89 countries. Continuing Professional Development courses on its use attended by 400 (Tim Pullen, HR Wallingford (email available)).
