Additional information

This work has seen direct application in the construction industry from the design of many of the tallest buildings in the world (Peter Bonfield (email available), BRE), to the forensic analysis of complex failures such as the World Trade Centre, USA (Fred Mowrer, fmowrer@calpoly.edu) and the Windsor Tower, Spain. This paper was awarded the 2012 ICE Telford Premium Award (www.icevirtuallibrary.com/info/awards2012). The work has influenced design standards and guidelines through the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) Fire Safety Committee (Anthony Wood, awood@ctbuh.org) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) committee for Tall Buildings (Morgan Hurley, mhurley@sfpe.org).
