Additional information

This paper was a major output from EPRSC/MoD joint grant scheme award (EP/F068522/1, EP/F068956/1,£287k). MIMO radars offer significant performance improvements with respect to conventional ones. A major obstacle to the adoption of MIMO is the requirement for power efficient constant envelope (CE) waveforms in operational radar systems. The algorithms in this paper provide the only methodology for the design of MIMO waveforms that are both CE and finite alphabet, the latter being the critical practical constraint in radar. This work attracted an invitation to present at the International Conference on Synthetic Aperture Sonar and Radar (http://www.ioa.org.uk/uploads/event-documents/SAS%20lerici.pdf).
