Additional information

This re-interpretation of available data led to award-winning work by Stern-Gottfried and colleagues (DoI:10.1016/j.engstruct.2011.01.034), resulting in the application of new approaches to the fire safety design in real buildings, e.g. 60 Ludgate Hill, by Arup (Angus Law). The work prompted correspondence in Scientific American (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=letters-jan-12) and was instrumental in the conception of a major research project “Real fires for the safe design of tall buildings” (EP/J001937/1, £1M).
