Front Tracking Using a Hybrid Analytical Finite Element Approach for Two-Phase Flow Applied to Supercritical CO2 Replacing Brine in a Heterogeneous Reservoir and Caprock
This internationally and industrially co-authored paper funded under MUSTANG (FP7/2007-2013:227286; total award €10.6M with €0.5M to Edinburgh) describes a method of extracting sub-grid information in finite element numerical models and develops its application for two-phase flow of supercritical CO2 in a brine-filled reservoir. This approach describes a new way of modelling transport of fluids in porous media other than standard volume -averaging approaches.
