Additional information

<07>This paper presents what was (and probably still is) the fastest parallelization of ClustalW on the Cell processor in the literature. The initial paper was picked up by IBM researchers working on a related subject (showcasing the Cell), which lead to IBM sponsoring our work by providing free access to IBM Cell blades. The research was also funded by a travel grant from the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO, Belgium), by the EU project ENCORE (grant 248647) and the EU project TEXT (grant 261580). The work has contributed to the award of the ERC Marie Curie Fellowship NovoSoft (grant 327744).
