Recovery heroes - A Profile of Gordon McManus

This was one of a series of five papers published in A Life in the Day, later Mental Health and Social Inclusion. It brought together three people who use mental health services and a mental health professional. One service use took the photograph of Gordon, another interviewed him and Gordon wrote his own short biography. I wrote an appraisal of Gordon as well as presenting his unique recovery model. Gordon’s definition of recovery, reported in the paper, “Recovery is coping with your illness and having a meaningful life,” has been very influential with service users and professionals.
