Additional information

This is the first empirical research on Crown Green Bowling to be published in a reviewed journal and adds to the nearly-non-existent literature on the sport. It emphasizes four strands of the social administration of sport prior to the maturation of a public sector of leisure after the First World War viz. private subscription, industrial paternalism, municipal provision and the commercial interests of the petty-bourgeoisie
