Additional information

Describes an elegant analytical means of predicting the complex behaviour associated with various different short-circuit faults in this type of machine. A significant advance over established circuit models in terms of the fidelity of the predictions, e.g. in discriminating likely fault locations. The experimental validation reported illustrates the utility and potential of this analytical approach for real-time fault monitoring and diagnosis (e.g. subsequent publication ‘An on-line winding fault detection technique for fault-tolerant PM machines,’Int. J. of Syst. Sci. vol. 40, no. 3, pp. 289-296, March 2009). Research funded by Rolls-Royce plc.
