Additional information

A novel method of realising magnetic harmonic/cycloid gear is proposed and the underlying theory is developed. The proposed topology enables very large gear ratios to be realised, and for the first time, the need for mechanical torque take-off arrangements is eliminated. The research was funded by EPSRC (GR/S70685/01) and is one of the technologies which led to a spin-out, Magnomatics Ltd, which now employs more than 20 staff with a turnover of £1.4M for 2012.
