Additional information

A novel analytical sub-domain model for accurately calculating the magnetic field and electromagnetic performance in slotted permanent magnet machines is proposed and validated by numerical and experimental results. This world-leading research has stimulated world-wide research activities on this subject, and resulted in a successful EPSRC project on “Acoustic noise and vibration of permanent magnet brushless machines (EP/F016506/1)”, an EPSRC Hodgkin Postgraduate PhD studentship in partnership with an UK software company, Motor Design Ltd, and subsequent 10 IEEE Trans. papers, as well as a consultant project for Mitsubishi Electric Co. Japan on “Analytical modelling of magnetic gear”.
