Additional information

Describes the key issues pertinent to the design of a linear permanent magnet motor for active vehicle suspension which has been pioneered at the University of Sheffield in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover (Phil Barber, pbarber2@jaguarlandrover.com) and demonstrates for the first time, such linear electromagnetic motor based suspension technology can be realised in the same suspension strut unit of a high performance production vehicle. Due to high efficiency, the active suspension unit can harvest net energy from the vertical movement of the vehicle, thus removing the fuel cost penalty of conventional hydraulic based active/semi-active suspension technology
