Additional information

An improved understanding of the impact of a large amount of varying wind generation on the combined GB electricity and gas networks was gained using the unique CGEN gas/electricity network model. Following publication of this paper, Cardiff was invited to join the EPSRC U.K. Infrastructure Transitions Research Consortium (£4.5M, £300k to Cardiff, 2011-15) to inform the analysis, planning and design of national infrastructure of the U.K. A major role was played in workshops with DECC (10/10/12, London), ETI (23/03/12, Loughborough) and National Grid (08/03/12, Oxford) on this subject. This research generated a PhD studentship funded by EPSRC HubNet (2012-15).
