Additional information

This comprises new work and presents a new methodology for comparing London and Paris. The article was translated into French and published in Jacques Carré (sous dir) Londres: Naissance d’une Capitale Culturelle, Paris, Presses Universitaires de Paris, Sorbonne, 2010 ch ‘Le regard panoptique sur Londres et l’appropriation de la métropole’ pp 111-132. As a result of this I was invited to write another comparative piece about London and Paris, which I wrote in French: Christophe Loir (sous dir) Marche et espace urbain de l’Antiquitė à nos jours, Revue Clara numero 1, Bruxelles, Presses Universitė Libre, 2013 ch ‘Les flâneurs – observateurs nonchalants du « paysage des grandes cités » et la vie quotidienne, du quartier du West End de la ville de Londres du début du XIXe siècle’.
