Exploring the relative performance of frequency-tracking and fixed-filter phasor measurement unit algorithms under C37.118 test procedures, the effects of interharmonics, and initial attempts at merging P-class response with M-class filtering
This research is the first publicly-available document showing a full suite of simulation results for any current or proposed Phasor Measurement Unit algorithm (including the C37.118 "Reference" algorithm), according to the new IEEE C37.118.1 (2011) standard. Significantly improved algorithms, believed to be the first to implement frequency tracking for off-nominal frequencies whilst also meeting C37.118 dynamic test requirements, are presented. This publication resulted in the author being invited to become an associate member of the IEEE WG H11 synchrophasor working group [Chair: Ken Martin, martin@electricpowergroup.com].
