Additional information

This research contributed to an international patent on early warning of wastewater treatment works failure to prevent ammonia pollution of watercourses (PCT/GB2005/001963, granted). The patented process, N-TOX®, was assigned to a Cranfield University spinout company, Water Innovate, prior to raising >£500k of investment (www.waterinnovate.com). It was one of 9 out of 265 entrants to win a Shell Springboard Award in 2006 for ideas with potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (www.shellspringboard.org). Water Innovate was bought by Bluewaterbio in 2010. N-TOX® has been deployed in Australia, Europe and the USA (justin.heath@bluewaterbio.com, Marketing Director, Bluewaterbio).
