Additional information

The work pioneers wetland technology for treatment of chromium tanning effluents. Findings have been used to size wetlands for treatment of industrial effluents in small tanneries and other industries in Argentina. In the developing world, wetland technology can help alleviate pollution input to rivers. The work was a collaboration between the Universidad Nacional del Litoral (UNL), two American universities, and a local Argentinian tannery. Continuing work, based on the findings, is being led by UNL in Argentina. Contact: Dr Alejandra Maine (amaine@fiqus.unl.edu.ar).
