There is significant concern about the effects of climate change in the eastern Mediterranean and Middle East region due to already precarious environmental and social conditions. However climate change impact assessment in the region to date has been weak. The paper addresses this knowledge gap by presenting the first comprehensive regional climate assessment, using high resolution climate data. The paper identifies important regional impacts of climate change and will allow policy makers and others to develop more effective long term strategies for agriculture, water and energy systems.
