Additional information

This work was part of an EU-funded program to improve the efficiency of gas turbine engines concentrating on the internal air system. This work is a novel extension of fluid-structure coupling to include metal deformation. The improvements in generic mesh movement techniques are applicable to a number of application areas (eg blade flutter), and specifically allow the prediction of seal clearances. This is seen as a key enabling technology for improved efficiency engines. Application of this technology is being carried out in collaboration with Rolls-Royce under the EU CLEANSKY project to develop more environmentally friendly engines.
