Next generation fuselage skins will make extensive use of Al-Li alloys. One of the key challenges to the introduction of the new alloys is the modelling and control of the roll bending process used to manufacture the barrel structure of the fuselage. This work presents a low cost closed loop control modular roll bending system and associated numerical modelling methods required to improve the accuracy of the final components.
